ESIC to adopt ECS for making payments

Staff Reporter

It announces enhancement in PDB, DB monthly amount

VIJAYAWADA: B.K. Sahu, Insurance Commissioner, Employees State Insurance Corporation, New Delhi, on Friday announced enhancement in the amount paid every month towards Permanent Disablement Benefit (PDB)/ Dependent Benefit (DB).

Addressing a meeting of these beneficiaries in the city, Mr. Sahu said the enhancement would be implemented from April 1. As part of its endeavour to serve its clients in a better way, the ESIC had worked out collaborations with more number of super-speciality hospitals to cater to the medical needs of the insured persons.

He said henceforth, the Corporation would adopt Electronic Clearing System (ECS) for making payments. Under the new system, the beneficiaries will have to open bank accounts (with zero balance) and submit their claim forms once every six months to have their money credited to their accounts.

‘Pehchan cards'

Mr. Sahu also spoke about the magnetic striped ‘Pehchan cards' being given to insured persons and their family members as part of extensive Information Technology (IT) roll out plan, which will connect all its branch offices, dispensaries and hospitals countrywide, to a central data base for making information easily accessible and also for providing other benefits.

With the help of a ‘Pehchan card', the insured person and his or her family could avail themselves of cash and medical benefits from any institution of ESIC throughout the country.

The card had a life long validity. Change of place or change in employment did not require fresh registration, he clarified.

ESIC Directors G. Janardhan Rao (Visakhapatnam), R.S. Rao (Vijayawada), Assistant Director K. Yesu, G.S. Raju of Siris company and others were present.
