VIJAYAWADA: The Tax Payers' Association on Friday gave a call to all municipal property tax payers to boycott the proposed Fire Tax. The association on Friday asked the general public to also boycott the payment of charges to convert agricultural land to non-agricultural purposes (NALA). Association secretary M.V. Anjeneyulu and president V. Sambi Reddy said at a press conference that the local bodies had no funds primarily because of the exemptions being given to big private companies by the State and Central governments. While the common man was being charged for all the services being extended to him, the big private companies were given exemptions to the tune of Rs. 12,01,450 crore by the Central government. If these exemptions were collected as taxes, the State would have got Rs. 89,027 crore as its share and Vijayawada would have got Rs. 997 crore as its share.
