Staff Reporter

Four more counters have been set up

Those paying arrears may avail themselves of interest waiver

VISAKHAPATNAM: Property tax payment will be accepted up to 11 p.m. on Wednesday, the last day of the current financial year, at all the Saukaryam and e-Seva centres of the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation, according to Municipal Commissioner V.N. Vishnu. Four more counters, in addition to the present six, have been set up for remitting property tax on Tuesday at the Saukaryam centre at the GVMC main office.

Those paying arrears may avail themselves of the interest waiver announced by the government.

Till 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Rs.14 crores was remitted, said Additional Commissioner (Finance) Purnachandra Rao. The working of the counters was extended till 10 p.m. Zone II Assistant Commissioner B. Sanyasi Naidu said Rs.50 lakhs was realised on Tuesday alone.

Culverts for pipeline

Mayor and Standing Committee Chairman Pulusu Janardhana Rao and committee members on Tuesday visited Padmanabhapuram to see whether culverts should be constructed for Raiwada and Godavari pipelines.

The visit had become necessary as two proposals were put before the Standing Committee at its meeting on Monday for construction of culverts necessitated by the laying of an additional railway line between Simhachalam and Kottavalasa.

The Mayor and the committee members felt that the construction of culverts was required in view of the likelihood of damage to the pipeline and should be taken up expeditiously.

However, Mr. Janardhana Rao said the possibility of taking up construction with the Railway funds would be explored and the department would be approached for funds. Standing Committee will again meet on Wednesday to take a decision.
