DBAY-Arrows play out a goalless draw

CHENNAI: Don Bosco Annai Youth and Arrows FC played out a goalless draw in the St. Joseph's-Chennai Football Association senior division league here on Tuesday.

A feisty encounter saw the physical nature of the tackles overshadowing the footballing qualities of both teams. Don Bosco would feel a bit hard done by after Okwvelum Ezekiel was denied what looked like a perfectly valid goal. A contact with centre back R. Naveen Kumar en route to his finish was adjudged by the linesman to be a foul when it looked like nothing more than a shoulder charge.

Not enough initiative

The second half played out much like the first with neither team showing enough initiative. Arrows had the best chance of the game, but John Nnanna, having controlled a fine pass from R. Marikkani, skewed his shot wide of the target.

Marikanni almost gave Arrows the lead towards the end of the game with a cross that fortuitously scooped over the Don Bosco goalkeeper onto the post. Arrorws' Naveen Kumar was later adjudged the man-of-the-match for a commanding performance at the back.

Arrows is now on 13 points from eight games, while Don Bosco has 12 from seven.

Earlier in the first division, RBI defeated Universal RC 2-1. RBI's goals were scored by A. Sakthivel and M. Mathivanan, while S. Sasikumar netted for Universal.
