Consultative panels under consideration: Speaker

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: Speaker N. Kiran Kumar Reddy said that he was examining the scope for constituting consultative committees akin to the ones in the Parliament to study Bills and important subjects, before they are taken up for discussion in the legislature.

“We have discussed this issue in the Business Advisory Committee where members expressed their keenness in it. But, I will have to discuss it with the Chief Minister before taking a final decision,” the Speaker added. Mr. Kiran Kumar Reddy said he was in the process of constituting various Assembly committees in the next two or three days.

He expressed satisfaction over the proceedings in the just concluded budget session stating that almost all major subjects were discussed in one form or the other.

“The House saw the maximum number of discussions during the Question Hour. It is unfortunate that demands and the Appropriation Bill could not be discussed,” he observed.

He denied the charge the Chair were partisan.

Several major issues had to be discussed and the Opposition parties could not stall the House simply by tabling adjournment motion. In a democracy, the Speaker and the Deputy Speaker had to be respected.

The Speaker said many members got an opportunity to speak in the House.

“In fact, on a single day as many as 103 members raised supplementary questions. Except for 15 first timers, all the new members spoke during the budget session,” he noted.
