BERHAMPUR: Activists of the Congress demonstrated in front of the corporate headquarters of the power distribution company Southco in the city on Monday to protest against the recommendation of the Orissa Electricity Regulatory Commission (OERC) for hike in power tariff in the State. They took out a rally from the Congress office in the city which continued up to the headquarters of the Southco. The rally was led by the city unit president of the party, Sanjit Pangrahy, and the working president of the Ganjam district Congress, Bhagaban Gantayat. Activists of different frontal organisations of the party, Students' Congress, Youth Congress, its Krushak Morcha took part in this demonstration. The agitators staged a dharna in front of the Southco office and they handed over a memorandum to the vice-president of the power distribution company urging to initiate measures with the State government so that the hike in power tariff could be stopped. Mr. Panigrahy said they have provided the Southco authorities and the State government one month's time for rollback of decision of power tariff hike. If no decision on rollback of hiked tariff is not taken by then the party would intensify their agitation.
