‘Urgent solution needed as rain has already started' People from various walks of life to take part at a protest function on Wednesday Thrissur: Playback singer K.J. Yesudas will inaugurate an awareness programme on Wednesday to highlight the problems faced by the residents of Lalur, Thrissur Corporation's waste disposal site. Lalur Malineekarana Viruddha Samara Samithi chairman T.K. Vasu told reporters here on Monday that the programme was organised to draw the attention of the authorities and the general public towards the problems faced by Lalur residents. “Lalur residents are victims of centralised waste management. The so-called educated people should rethink about their ways of life. We need to create a culture of decentralised waste management with segregation of waste at the source. The city dwellers neglect the sufferings of people of Lalur,” he said. The awareness programme is organised to seek urgent action to solve the problem as the rain has already started, he said. “Yesudas has sung the lyrics written by poet K.G. Sankarapillai on the sufferings of Lalur residents. These songs will be released in the programme, ” he said. Women and children of Lalur will take part in a candlelight protest in the evening. People from different walks of life, including Sukumar Azhikode, Sara Joseph, K.G. Sankarapillai, V.K. Sreeraman, Vidyadharan, Vaisakhan, P.N. Gopeekrishnan, I.M. Vijayan, Mohan Sithara, I. Shanmugha Das and Babu Narayanan will participate the function.
