Fire accident in Jeedimetla

Several tonnes of stored chemicals reduced to ashes

HYDERABAD: Fire broke out in the godown of Suven Life Sciences Limited, a drugs intermediates manufacturing company, at Jeedimetla IDA, on Monday, reducing several tonnes of stored chemicals to ashes.

No one was injured in the major fire accident as workers were not on duty at the godown - Monday being a holiday for them, Alwal ACP, P. Santosh Kumar, said.

Alert watchman

The watchman saw flames erupting from a corner of the godown spread over 2,000 square feet around 4.30 p.m. They alerted the fire service personnel and local police.

Jeedimetla Inspector A. Gangaram rushed to the spot within two minutes and tried to douse flames with the help workers of surrounding factories. Several policemen and over 30 firemen had to struggle for over three hours with eight fire tenders to put out the blazes.

In addition to water, foam was used to douse the flames.

Cause and sources of the fire were not yet identified.

A case of fire accident was registered.
