KOCHI: The Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA) has formally severed its links with Thilakan, actor. His lifelong membership of the association was revoked after he appeared before its executive committee meeting here on Monday. The veteran actor presented his case for nearly an hour at the meeting, attended by 14 members of the executive committee. However, the committee expressed dissatisfaction over the reply made by Mr. Thilakan on issues of indiscipline and public statements made against the organisation. Mr. Thilakan refused to apologise for the comments and criticism that he made about AMMA in public. Following this, the organisation took the decision to expel him. Unanimous decision Innocent, president of AMMA, told presspersons that the decision was taken to maintain the decorum of the organisation as Mr. Thilakan stuck to his allegations about the organisation. However, this ban would have no effect on his acting career. He could continue to act and members of AMMA had no reservation in acting along with him. After Mr. Thilakan presented his case, the committee discussed the issue and the decision to expel Mr. Thilakan was unanimous. There was no point in keeping him in the organisation, as he stuck to his allegations, said ‘Edavela' Babu, a member of the committee. Actor's complaint Mr. Thilakan complained that he was denied justice at the meeting, adding that he was insulted after being invited for presenting his case. The decision to expel him was predetermined. Some of the members of the executive committee showed disrespect towards him, he alleged.
