Proposal on traffic station

MYSORE: Following an increase in the number of accidents on highways passing through Mysore district, the Mysore district police have sent a proposal to the State Government to establish a traffic police station at Nanjangud for effective management of highway traffic.

Disclosing this to mediapersons here on Tuesday, Superintendent of Police Rama Subba said a District Traffic Wing had been formed informally to manage traffic on two highways — National Highway 212 (Kozhikode-Kollegal) and Mysore-Bantwal Highway (via Hunsur).

In the first quarter of 2010, the district recorded 53 fatal accidents and 177 non-fatal accidents. The traffic wing consisting of 10 policemen (two each from five select police stations) had been constituted to monitor traffic movement on the highways, he said.
