Legislature panel indicts Vivek Kulkarni, others

Special Correspondent

Bangalore: The Legislature Committee on Public Undertakings, probing alleged irregularities in organising IT.com 2002 and 2003, has recommended action against Vivek Kulkarni and S.B. Kolhar, the former managing director and secretary of Marketing Consultants and Agencies Ltd. (MC&A), an ancillary of Mysore Sales International Ltd. (MSIL).

Briefing the findings of the committee's report here on Tuesday, M.K. Pattanashetty, chairman of the panel, said the report of the committee was tabled in the Legislative Assembly on March 4.

The committee has also recommended that the State Government blacklist Cyber Media Expo for not paying the government Rs. 56.7 lakh towards material supplied for conducting the expos.

The committee has recommended action against the officials for failing to take action against the company and deciding to conduct the subsequent IT.com in 2003 with the same organisation.

Mr. Pattanashetty said the panel has decided to urge the State Government to initiate criminal proceedings against Mr. Kulkarni, Mr. Kolhar and the Cyber Media Expo for not paying the amount.

More irregularities

The panel has also found irregularities in the afforestation programme implemented by the Karnataka Forest Development Corporation (KFDC) in the 1990s and sought action against N.V. Ramachandra Shetty, M.K. Appaiah, B.R. Baskar, A.S. Kumar, B.S. Adappa and M.L. Ramprakash, all retired officials of the Indian Forest Service (IFS).

The KFDC planned afforestation programme on 701 hectares of Government land by spending Rs. 17.92 crore. But it spent only Rs. 1.14 crore and took up the afforestion only on a few hectares of land, the panel said.

The panel will now urge Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa to take action against the officials involved in the implementation of the programme.
