KOCHI: Left Democratic Front convener Vaikom Viswan said here on Wednesday that the Union government is promoting commercialisation of education by allowing foreign universities to open campuses in the country. In his address at the inauguration of the delegates meet in connection with the 30 {+t} {+h} annual meet of Cochin University Employees' Association here, Mr. Viswan said that the government decision will undermine social justice, as only the rich could be able to access the education being offered by the foreign universities. He said that capitalist forces have gained control over the educational scene in the country. Mr. Viswan said that the government has failed to protect the interests of students by promoting rampant commercialisation of the higher education sector. Ashok M. Cherian, president of the association, and P. H. M. Ismail, State president of NGO Union, spoke.
