KOCHI: An early morning walk by a Walkers Group, supported by a few local organisations in Fort Kochi from Veli ground to Vasco da Gama Square was perhaps among a few activities that marked the World Health Day on Wednesday. The District Health Office joined hands with the District Literacy Mission and other government departments like the Kudumbashree in organising a seminar on the day at Pallippuram Grama Panchayat in Vypeen. As the theme for the year has city-oriented focus—1000 cities, 1000 lives — it was largely translated into how urbanisation affects health. The District RCH Officer, R. Parvathy, took the class on the subject. Usually voluntary organisations vie with each other in organising programmes on such days. Even the Corporation, that should have taken the lead in creating awareness on the effect of health with a city-oriented theme, was bereft of any programme to mark the day.
