K. Rosaiah NEW DELHI: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister K. Rosaiah has urged the Centre to restore the rice allocation under the Above Poverty Line (APL) quota to his State at 45,000 tonnes per month. Similarly, the kerosene allocation should also be revised to 55,368 kilo litres for a month from the present 49,656 kl. The subsidy scheme on red gram and palmolein oil should be continued and the State should get allocation of sufficient quantity of levy sugar. Mr. Rosaiah, who is here to attend the meeting of core group on prices of essential commodities convened by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Thursday, suggested that an announcement on remunerative minimum support prices for various food items may be made in advance. Jalayagnam He also sought the Centre's support for the massive irrigation scheme of his government -- Jalayagnam. He also wanted reduction in the gap between farm gate prices and retail prices. His government had constituted a Group of Ministers to review price situation periodically and measures were taken accordingly. Millers and traders in paddy, rice, pulses, edible oilseeds, edible oils and sugar were brought under new licensing system. VAT exemption About 4,860 cases had been booked against the dealers and others for violation of the provisions issued under Essential Commodities Act, 1955. The A.P. government had exempted VAT on sugar imports from other countries, he said.
