Scientist found hanging

Indore: A scientist of the Raja Ramanna Centre for Advanced Technology (RRCAT) here allegedly ended his life and his senior was booked for abetting the suicide, police said on Sunday.

Tirumala Prasad Tenka (30), a bachelor, was found hanging at his house in Rajendra Nagar on Saturday night, police said, adding the deceased left behind a letter holding his senior, G.S. Lodha, responsible for the extreme step.

Mr. Lodha, a senior officer of the RRCAT, was on Sunday booked under Section 306 (abetment of suicide) of the IPC, police said.

The letter alleged that Mr. Lodha had mentally tortured Tenka.

Tenka, hailing from Andhra Pradesh, was working with the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE)-run centre for the last five years.

“We have lost a talented scientist and it was a big jolt to us,” RRCAT Director P.D. Gupta told PTI.

“It is hard for us to understand right now under what circumstances Tenka took this extreme step,” he said.

Mr. Gupta said the RRCAT was providing all help to the police in the investigation.

After completing his bachelor's degree from the training school of the RRCAT in 2005, Tenka joined its Indus Synchrotron Utilisation Division as scientist officer (Grade C). He was promoted in two years, officials said. — PTI
