COLOMBO: The U.S. has expressed the hope that the historic mandate secured by the combine led by Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa will take forward national reconciliation and ensure human rights. In a statement here, the U.S. Embassy congratulated Mr. Rajapaksa and the United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA) on their historic victory in the first nationwide parliamentary election in decades. Meanwhile, the Election Commission has announced that re-polling in some booths for the Trincomalee and Kandy parliamentary constituencies will be held on April 20.On account of complaints of irregularities, the Commission has withheld the results for the two districts. Results for the seats will be announced only after a repolling is held.
