ONGC, Hindustan Club set to advance

NEW DELHI: Striker Babatunde Ayomide's brace gave Oil and Natural Gas Corporation, Mumbai, a crucial 2-0 victory over Amity United, Haryana, in the ONGC second division football league at the Ambedkar Stadium here on Sunday.

The Mumbai team took the lead in the 32nd minute when Babatunde headed in a pass from Krishna Shirodkar from the right. Goalkeeper Sukdeb rushed out but was beaten by the header. All efforts of Amity United to score were nullified by the defenders of the ONGC.

Meanwhile, the Mumbai team kept attacking and managed to widen the lead in the second half. It was Babatunde once again, as he struck in the 55 {+t} {+h} minute.

ONGC has taken its tally to 10 points from five matches. With one more match to go, the team has virtually assured itself of a qualification spot from the zone. Amity United took its tally to six points from five matches.

In another match, DSA league champion Hindustan Club beat Indian National Club 3-1, thanks to a hat-trick by Musibau. He scored in the 28th, 46th and 90th minutes. The saving grace for Indian National was the solitary goal from Pradeep Kumar in 66th minute.

Hindustan Club finished its engagements with 10 points from six matches while Indian National ended up with three points from six matches.

Other result: At Bangalore: HASC 5 (Fredrick 3, Gopi 2) bt Golden Threads 0; BEML 1 (Alesh Shamaki) drew with Titanium 1 (Abdul Hameed) .
