Siblings drown in quarry

KOTTAYAM: Two siblings, aged 12 and 14 years respectively, drowned while they were playing in a pool formed out of the summer rains in a granite quarry near their house on Sunday after noon.

According to police, Soorya, 14, and her brother Suneesh alias Unnikkuttan, 12, had arrived from their mother's house at Mundakkayam for the summer holidays, to be with their father, Rajan of Panthiruparayil, Chengalam, who was staying in a rented house at Kaithamattom near Madhavanpady on KK Road near Manarcadu. The accident occurred by 2.30 p.m.

The bodies of the siblings were retrieved from the pool with the help of the Fire and Rescue Services Force and were taken to the Kottayam Medical College Hospital.
