Services of guest lecturers cannot be regularised: Limbavali

Arvind Limbavali

BIDAR: Higher Education Minister Arvind Limbavali said on Sunday that the number of seats in engineering courses for diploma holders would be increased next year.

Speaking after performing bhoomi puja to construct a government polytechnic building on the outskirts of Bidar, Mr. Limbavali said that the State Government had decided to bring the vacant seats in engineering courses, after the CET counselling, under the collateral system for the benefit of diploma holders.

The Minister said that even after increasing the percentage of collateral entry for diploma holders from 10 to 15, the number of unclaimed engineering seats continued to be very high.

Reacting to the demand by Bidar MLA Rahim Khan and Aurad MLA Prabhu Chavan to open government engineering colleges in Bidar and Aurad taluks in the district, Mr. Limbavali said that the State Government was ready to sanction such colleges, but “we should find students to fill the seats in new colleges”.

Demand

Referring to the demand for regularisation of the services of guest lecturers, Mr. Limbavali said that the State Government had regularised the services of lecturers working on the daily wage basis.

But the services of the guest lecturers appointed on contract could not be regularised, the Minister said.

He said that the Higher Education Department had written to the Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC) to work out the eligibility norms for the candidates to be appointed as guest lecturers.
