PUDUCHERRY: Registrations and renewal at the Employment Exchange will no longer be a tedious process. The Labour Department has opened six special counters to ensure quick processing of registration, thereby reducing the waiting period for candidates. The counters - three each for men and women – will complete works for renewal of registration in two minutes and fresh and additional registration in four minutes, according to a release. Labour Commissioner G. Malar Kannan said that each of the three counters for men and women would cater for a single activity – fresh registration, renewal of registration and entries for additional qualification. “Prior to this, we had a collection centre at the Employment Exchange. The actual registration was carried out inside the exchange and candidates were asked to wait. It was a long process. With these special counters, work is done on the spot and candidates need not wait,” he said. Registration cards would be issued to candidates instantaneously, he said. Welfare Minister M. Kandasamy inaugurated the special counters on Tuesday. Mr. Kannan said that the exchange has received the Indian Standard Organisation (ISO) certification through the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS). “This is the first Employment Exchange to obtain ISO certification through the BIS. We received it on March 30,” he said.
