ARIYALUR: The Rs.10.8 crore new Collectorate Complex for Ariyalur district could be ready by July well in advance before the scheduled time for completion, Collector T. Abraham said on Wednesday.

The work that commenced during September 2009 was planned for completion in a year's time. After finishing structural works in the ground plus two floors building, the Public Works Department has completed plastering works in two floors.

“We expect the entire building to be completed and handed over by July,” Mr. Abraham said after an inspection. After Ariyalur district was carved out of Perambalur district in 2007, the Collectorate has been functioning from the multi-departmental complex along the Jayankondam road. But for a few departments like Revenue, PWD, and Agricultural Engineering, several other departments including the District Employment Office, Thadco Office, Department of Social Welfare, and Office of the Civil Supplies Department are functioning from rented buildings.

While the Police Department will have a separate complex and the District Industries Centre will function from its own building, almost all the other departments will be housed in the new Collectorate complex, Mr. Abraham said.Facilities in the three-storey complex include three meeting halls and lift.

Two revenue divisions

The smallest in the State, Ariyalur district encompasses two revenue divisions: Ariyalur and Udayarpalayam, and three taluks: Ariyalur, Udayarpalayam and Senthurai.
