Probe charges against Tharoor: CPI

Special Correspondent

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Communist Party of India (CPI) State secretary Veliyam Bhargavan has asked the Central government to investigate the allegations against Union Minister of State for External Affairs Shashi Tharoor in connected with the Kochi IPL team.

‘Middleman'

In a statement here on Wednesday, Mr. Bhargavan pointed out that Mr. Tharoor was the ‘middleman' in the deal, which involved Rs.1,530 crore. There were reports that Mr. Tharoor's friend Sunanda Pushkar had been given 17 per cent stake in the team in return for the services the Minister had rendered.

The matter was serious because it implied that Mr. Tharoor had misused his office as Union Minister for financial gains.

This was nothing short of corruption and should be investigated, he said.

The CPI also asked the KPCC leadership to clarify its stand on the deals involving Mr. Tharoor.
