ATR to be opened on May 1

Staff Reporter

Tirupur: The Anamalai Tiger Reserve (ATR), of which Amaravathi crocodile farm in the district is a part, will be reopened to visitors only on May 1 and not as earlier stated.

Hot weather

Official sources told reporters here that the tiger reserve was initially scheduled to be reopened after routine summer closure on April 16 but the prevailing abominable hot conditions forced the authorities to extend the closure.

The sanctuary was usually closed to the visitors in summer taking into account the fact that dry spells could trigger forest fire any time.
