VISAKHAPATNAM: Several industries, including Visakhapatnam Port and NTPC Simhadri, observed National Safety Day on Wednesday. Port Chairman Ajeya Kallam paid rich tributes to the gallant firemen who lost their lives in service by placing a wreath at the manorial plaque at Central Fire Station and took salute at the commemoration parade. He said fire service was fully equipped at the port and they were always prepared to combat any emergency. Later, he visited a photo exhibition and inaugurated weeklong programmes at Central Fire Station. Port Deputy Chairman G.V.L. Satya Kumar, Deputy Conservator S. Mathur and port fire officer K. Kumar Raju were present. NTPC Simhadri General Manager D.K. Sood, CISF Commandant B.K. Pattanayak, Assistant Commandant (fire) R.V.K. Nair paid rich tributes to fire fighters, who died at Bombay Dock on April 14, 1944, by placing wreaths at the Martyrs' tomb. Fire safety pledge was administered to the employees. Booklets and pamphlets were distributed on the occasion. Breathtaking fire demonstrations by CISF Jawans, especially the rescue operations at high-rise buildings, was the highlight of the programme. NTPC Executive Director (HR) S. Kumar said that CISF at Simhadri was fully equipped and capable of tackling any exigency. Mr. Sood congratulated CISF wing at Simhadri for achieving the best fire unit award for 2007 and best security unit of CISF for 2008.
