Nadukani textile centre inaugurated

KANNUR: The textile centre developed by the Kerala Infrastructure Development Corporation (Kinfra) under the Textile Centre Infrastructure Development Scheme (TCIDS) was inaugurated at Nadukani here on Friday.

Inaugurating the centre, Industries Minster Elamaram Karim said Nadukani and nearby areas would be an industrial township as the centre was expected to give employment to 10,000 people. He said the State government was planning to mobilise investments in the textile sector in the State in view of the increased potential for textile production and exports in the country. The government had decided to set up five rural apparel parks in the State, including one in Payyannur in the district.

Funds for NIFT

The Minister said the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) centre in the district had been allocated Rs.58 crore. Kinfra would complete a building there in December.

Mr. Karim said the State government had decided to invest Rs.275 crore for developing public sector units in the State. As many as 32 public sector companies under the State government had been running in profits after the Left Democratic Front government came to power. Even private companies in the State had been performing well thanks to the healthy industrial environment in the State.
