Girl had died after coming in contact with a live wire in bus shelter Davangere: Senior officials of the Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (Bescom) inspected a bus shelter at Vijayapura village in Chennagiri taluk on Thursday, where a girl died after coming in contact with a live wire. Lakshmi (11) died instantaneously, while Bettappa who tried to rescue her sustained burns and has been admitted to hospital. Following the incident, villagers alleged that Bescom had installed the electricity poles unscientifically. Complaints to Bescom in this regard had had no effect, they charged. Protests Meanwhile, parents of the victim, supported by the villagers, activists of the Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha, Hasiru Sene and other organisations, staged demonstrations in front of the Chigateri General Hospital, demanding that Bescom provide compensation. They raised slogans against Bescom and condemned the apathy of the company's officials. Compensation The officials who came to the site of the protests assured the parents of the girl that a compensation of Rs. 1 lakh would be given if the investigation found lapses on the part of Bescom.
