Portico collapses in UoH

Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD: The portico of a huge building under construction on the campus of University of Hyderabad at Gachibowli collapsed on Friday morning raising suspicion over the construction quality of the building meant for Life Sciences Department.

None injured

Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident though normally over 100 labourers used to be present at the construction site when the work was on. Some pillars of the two-floor structure being built on nearly 2.5 acres of land too got damaged following the portico's collapse.

“The contractor tried to remove the debris with labourers before university authorities arrived at the spot to cover up his misdeeds but we prevented them,” UoH Employees Union office bearer, Narsimha Goud, told reporters.
