P.J. RAO. Putrevu Jagannatha Rao, PJ to his friends, died peacefully at the age of 86, with his son Vijay and his daughter Arunashree at his side, in Bangalore on 15 April 2010. After working for the Statesman and All India Radio, he joined the Inform ation Service of India and then the Indian Foreign Service and served with quiet integrity and application, and considerable courage, throughout his working life, which he concluded with UNESCO. During his diplomatic career he worked in several territori es which were in periods of transition, such as Pondicherry, Burma, and pre-independence Southern and Eastern Africa. He chronicled many of his experiences in his memoirs, "Anecdotes from a Diplomat's Life", which appeared in 2008. He rejoins Susheela, w ho preceded him. All who knew him will miss him greatly.
