Fulfil promises during Praja Patham: CPI(M)

Special Correspondent

CPI (M) State secretary B.V. Raghavulu pens letter to Rosaiah

3,800 villages, 84 municipalities facing acute shortage of drinking water

HYDERABAD: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has demanded that the government take steps to solve the problems faced by the people and fulfil the promises it made before the previous elections during the Praja Patham programme commencing on April 19.

In a letter to Chief Minister K. Rosaiah, CPI (M) State secretary B.V. Raghavulu wanted the Government to honour its commitment of providing 30 kg rice a month and nine-hour power supply to farm sector as they remain unfulfilled 11-months after the elections.

Ration cards

He said white ration cards of scores of eligible beneficiaries had been cancelled in the name of weeding out bogus cards while the ineligible people with political connections were continuing to enjoy the benefits. No steps had been initiated on release of dues amounting to Rs. 550 crore under the much-hyped Pavala Vaddi (loans at three per cent interest a year) and the government had also not released funds pertaining to construction of houses under Indiramma housing scheme.

As many as 3,800 villages and 84 municipalities are facing acute shortage of drinking water while domestic as well as agriculture consumers were suffering due to erratic power supply situation. Industrial establishments are facing frequent power cuts resulting in dip in production.

Mr. Raghavulu expressed concern over the state of affairs in the Health department where 40 per cent posts are lying vacant while there were no doctors in over 100 hospitals.
