KADAPA: In a road accident in Kadapa district, nine persons were killed and five others sustained severe injuries when an iron ore-laden truck collided with a passenger autorickshaw near Varadayapalle village in Mydukur mandal on Saturday. The bodies were strewn in a pool of blood on the road on Badvel-Mydukur road presenting a gory sight. The deceased were identified as N. Venkatasubba Reddy, 65, and G. Ramasubba Reddy, 55, both of Tuvvapalle village, B. Pullaiah, 55, of Jandlavaram village in Mydukur mandal, B. Ramanamma, 29, and B. Venkatasubba Reddy, 65, of Bagadipalle, E. George, 50, of Z. Kothapalle, M. Chinnasubba Reddy, 30, of Sethuvaripalle in Brahmamgari Matham mandal and G. Subbamma, 40, of Bheemunipadu in Duvvur mandal and N. Aphrom, 20, of Mallayapalle in Khajipet mandal. Five passengers of the autorickshaw sustained injuries and were rushed to Proddatur Government hospital. Rumour The auto driver also sustained injuries but fled from the scene, the police said and dubbed as rumour a report that he attempted suicide by consuming pesticide. The deceased as well as those injured were going to Mydukur when the mishap occurred. Angered at the deaths, relatives of the deceased reached Varadayapalle in large numbers and squatted on the road till 1 p.m. obstructing movement of iron ore-laden trucks for about four hours and broke the glass panes of half a dozen trucks. Ex-gratia announced Meanwhile, Collector Shashi Bhushan Kumar and Superintendent of Police B. Malla Reddy rushed to Varadayapalle and promised payment of ex-gratia of Rs. 50,000 to the kin of each of the accident victims. The protesters demanded that the officials initiate concerted action to check over-speeding by iron ore-laden trucks, which cause frequent accidents and damage roads. They officials promised to examine the issue.
