HYDERABAD: On the eve of World Heritage Day, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) has launched the concept of installing plaques on the listed Heritage Buildings in the city. To start with, such plaques were placed at the Greenlands Building and Sardar Mahal here on Saturday.

Speaking on the occasion, the HMDA Commissioner B.P. Acharya said all the structures that have been recognised as Heritage Buildings in the city would soon get similar plaques.

A proposal to waive off the property tax for these buildings too was made to the government after discussions with the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) with the idea that the money would ploughed back for the upkeep of the structure, he said. The other proposals include recognition of Heritage Avenues such as Patherghatti and General Bazar where the facades are to be conserved.

The function was attended by Chairman of newly constituted Heritage Conservation Committee, R. Rajamani and others.

Official residence

Built in the year 1927 by the Nizam family, the Greenland Building has been the official residence of the State Chief Ministers from 1952 and 1982.
