Politics of MIM-Congress unholy alliance to blame for the situation, says party leader Ex gratia of Rs 5 lakhs for kin of those killed sought
BJP activists raising slogans at the Collectorate in Visakhapatnam on Saturday. VISAKHAPATNAM: Bharaitya Janata Party on Saturday staged a dharna here at the Collectorate demanding a judicial probe into the communal riots in Hyderabad. In a memorandum to the Governor which was submitted to the District Collector, a BJP delegation said the way the riots were engineered, spread and perpetuated warranted a judicial probe. The BJP delegation led by city president M. Nagendra said the discriminatory attitude of the police and the administration towards a particular community needed to be inquired into. He said BJP believed that the communal politics being pursued by MIM and Congress' `unholy alliance' was responsible for the present situation in Hyderabad. The MIM almost made the Congress Government a puppet in its hands during past six years, at least, so far as Hyderabad was concerned. Mr. Nagendra stated in the memorandum that the helplessness of the police in reigning in belligerent MIM was responsible for the present situation. The reports that the MIM was actually preparing the list of those to be arrested and police was just following instructions from the MIM bore amply evidence for the intensity of the Majlis domination. Citing cases of communal activity by MIM, the BJP stated that when Taslima Nasreen came to Hyderabad to release a book, she was attacked and literally beaten by MIM MLAs. When junior doctors were on strike, a Majlis MLA went to one hospital along with his accomplices and literally beat up the junior doctors. No case was booked, Mr. Nagendra regretted. The BJP demanded probe into inaction of police during riots, announcement of Rs.5 lakh ex-gratia to those killed, registering cases only on the basis of merit and not recommendations and direct the police to release all those arrested without any valid charges. The memorandum was signed by former MLC, P.V. Chalapathi Rao, district president M.B. Muralidhara Raju, RSS divisional president D. Visweswaram, BJP city general secretary B. Narendra Prakash, general secretary Ganta Satyanarayana and State executive member K. Rajakumari.
