This Day That Age
A report dealing elaborately with the steps to be taken and the policies to be followed for the promotion of scientific research in the Third Five-Year Plan has been submitted by Prof. M.S. Thacker, Secretary of the Union Ministry of Scientific Research and Cultural Affairs and Director-General of Scientific and Industrial Research, it is learnt in New Delhi. Important among the suggestions made in the report are: establishment of machinery for close collaboration and co-ordination between Ministries, governmental organisations and departments concerned with scientific research and development, and research organisations and educational institutions; reform of the educational pattern and curricula with greater stress on science education at all levels and inclusion of science in the I.A.S. syllabus, expansion of science education, encouragement of scientists with aptitude for fundamental research and provision of support to universities in building up facilities for research.
