Package to meet water crisis

Staff Reporter

ADILABAD: Health Minister and Adilabad district in-charge Danam Nagender on Sunday said he will seek from Chief Minister K. Rosaiah, sanction of a special package for easing the drinking water crisis. He said deficient rainfall of last monsoon ended up depleting ground water levels considerably causing acute shortage of water in the district. At a Praja Patham preparatory meeting held at Basar, the Minister said works for augmenting supply or creating new sources for drinking water would be given priority. An action plan to mitigate the problem has already been activated, he added.

Mr. Nagender warned officials of stringent action in case they showed laxity in executing works related to provision of drinking water. He has received complaints that officials were absenting themselves from duty, he said.

Later, talking to newsmen the Minister appealed to Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) president K. Chandrashekhar Rao not to press for a boycott of the Praja Patham programme. He said the programme was meant for development of backward areas including the Telangana region. Collector P. Venkateswarlu and others attended the meeting.
