HYDERABAD: Telugu Desam Party (TDP) on Sunday announced its decision to field P. Narender Reddy and Y. Mallesham as its candidates for the Legislative Council elections for the Local Authorities' Constituencies (LACs) in Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy districts. It has decided not to contest another Council seat from Hyderabad due to “lack of strength”. Narender Reddy, who is the sitting Mandal Parishad president of Shahbad and also happens to be brother of Tandur legislator P. Mahender Reddy, will contest the Ranga Reddy LAC seat, while Y. Mallesham, president of AP State Kuruma Sangham, will fight the Hyderabad LAC seat. Party president N. Chandrababu Naidu finalised the candidates after a meeting with party leaders of Greater Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy districts. However, in spite of having a 72-member (vote) lead over the Congress tally in Ranga Reddy LAC, the TDP appears to be sailing through rough waters with the Congress fielding Kasani Gnaneshwar, as he has supporters in TDP, TRS and BJP. TDP has chosen Mr. Narender Reddy overruling objections by a few leaders from the district, with a view to giving a tough fight to Mr. Gnaneshwar. The name of senior leader from Ranga Reddy, T. Devender Goud, also figured briefly but he was learnt to have indicated lack of interest.
