Footwear park to open on Thursday

Kozhikode: The newly set up footwear park at the industrial growth centre under the Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation (KSIDC) at Kinalur in the district will be inaugurated on Thursday, Industries Minister Elamaram Karim has said.

Addressing a press conference here here on Monday, Mr. Karim said the documents regarding the leasing out of land for 30 investors who had already agreed to set up their footwear production units at the park would be handed over at the function.

‘‘All basic facilities, including water transport and power supply, have been made available at the park,'' he said.

The Minister said a major share of the footwear industry of Kerala was concentrated in Kozhikode district. He said the integrated footwear park would help to bring a large group of industrial entrepreneurs under a single umbrella.

‘‘They can also utilise the common facilities available at the park, which will ultimately make their venture more profitable,'' he said.

Investment expected

The Minister said the park was expected to bring an investment of Rs.500 crore, besides direct job opportunities to 2,000 people and an indirect job for as many as 4,000 people.

Mr. Kareem said that talks were on with prospective investors from different places, including overseas, to start major industrial projects in the remaining land under the KSIDC at Kinalur.

KSIDC Executive Director Karmachandran was also present on the occasion.
