Raichur: A conveyor belt at the coal handling plant of the Raichur Thermal Power Station (RTPS) was destroyed in a fire incident early on Monday. However, this has not affected the power generation at the thermal plant. The fire broke out at one section of the coal yard at about 4 a.m., following which a portion of the conveyor belt, which carrying coal to the first three units, caught fire. The incident has caused a loss of Rs. 60 lakh. The fire was put out at 8.30 a.m. Except one, all other units were in operation, generating about 24 million units a day. The fourth unit has been shut down since April 13.
