Mysore Lamps was closed down some years ago 97 workers have not accepted VRS offer BANGALORE: The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has decided to absorb 97 employees of Mysore Lamps limited, which has been wound up. The KSRTC is keen on buying part of the land owned by Mysore Lamps at Yeshwanthpur in Bangalore for setting up a bus terminus. This decision was taken by the KRSTC in consultation with government officials. However, this decision has to be given the go ahead by the High Court as the liquidation proceedings of Mysore Lamps are going on. These 97 employees have not accepted the voluntary retirement scheme (VRS) offered by the State Government after it decided to wind up Mysore Lamps, a State undertaking, which was once popular in South India for its bulbs, tube lights and allied electrical equipment. The company had 1,550 employees on its rolls. Mysore Lamps was closed down some years ago. While 1,400 employees accepted the voluntary retirement scheme, 97 did not. The KSRTC, which wants six acres of the Mysore Lamps land, has decided to offer employment to the 97 employees. Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation limited has sought the land for a three-year lease. The State Government too wants the land to construct a building on the lines of Kendriya Sadan in Koramangala to house its offices. The KSRTC, BMRCL and the State Government are expected to file an application before the Karnataka High Court shortly.
