Of another age

This has reference to the article, Memories of another day, another age (April 20). As one who had visited Soweto, Sharpeville and the Robben Island during apartheid and the post-apartheid days, I was moved by the graphic description of the events that speak volumes about the heroic deeds of the African people for the liberation of South Africa. The Hindu will be doing a great service to this wonderful people, if M.S. Prabhakara throws light on how indentured Indians endured hardships and inhuman treatment during their 150 years of settlement in South Africa. The grateful Indian community in South Africa is planning to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the first arrival of indentured Indians on November 16. This year happens to be the 100th birth anniversary of Dr. Monty Naicker, another great and much-honoured Indian South African.
