HYDERABAD: The Telangana Pharma and Chemical Employees Association (TPCEA) along with other civil society and environmental groups in the city will be organising a human chain formation on Thursday to mark Earth Day observed across the world.

The programme to be conducted in association with Telangana Development Forum, Telangana Human Rights Forum, Forum for Better Hyderabad and other organisations aims at highlighting the various environmental issues plaguing the city and Telangana region as a whole.

Dr. D. Sridhar, president, TPCEA said the aim of the human chain on Hussainsagar was to create awareness among the common people, especially youngsters, the plight of water bodies as a consequence of massive economic growth. “Over 160 villages in and around the city are having to depend on water tankers for drinking water thanks to the rampant pollution of water bodies in and around the city,” Dr. Sridhar said. The event will be held on Tank Bund from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m.
