‘Ministry has given the vehicle to every district for better traffic management' Chitradurga: The traffic police in the district are now better equipped to do their work with this new addition to the fleet: the Interceptor vehicle. About a month ago, the Home Ministry gave this hi-tech vehicle, which has been in use for about a fortnight now, to the district police. The vehicle, which costs Rs. 26 lakh, is equipped with modern gadgets such as a 360-degrees surveillance camera, a speed-monitoring device, an alcometer (breathalyzer) and a CCTV. According to Superintendent of Police Labhu Ram, the Home Ministry has given Interceptors to every district for better traffic management. Camera Mr. Ram said the surveillance camera on the roof of this sports utility vehicle could capture images within a radius of 300 yards. “This could be used best during VIP visits and public gatherings” he explained. Having already seen the benefits of the vehicle, Sub-Inspector (Traffic) R. Gayatri is happy. With the introduction of the vehicle, the police have been able to catch double the number of reckless drivers. “Earlier, we could barely register 20 cases a day. Riders/drivers would argue with us as we had no way of proving them guilty. But now, since the device captures complete data along with images of the speeding vehicle, the rider/driver has no choice but to pay the fine,” she said.
