Karim opens footwear park

Kozhikode: Industries Minister Elamaram Karim inaugurated a footwear park at the industrial growth centre under the Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation (KSIDC) at Kinalur in Kozhikode on Thursday.

Mr. Karim also handed over the documents, regarding the leasing out of land, to more than 30 entrepreneurs who have agreed to set up footwear production units at the park.

He asked the entrepreneurs to commission their production units on time. He also reminded them that the government would have no qualm in cancelling the lease agreement and reclaiming the land if the investors failed to start production after the specified time.

The footwear park is set up on 70 acres of the 308 acres under the KSIDC at Kinalur.

Mr. Karim said that the government was in talks with several investors to bring a feasible project on the rest of the land.

“We expect to make a breakthrough soon,” he said.

Mr. Karim said the park was expected to bring an investment of Rs.500 crore besides thousands of job opportunities.
