Naveen meets Shinde on rural electrification

Staff Reporter

BHUBANESWAR: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Thursday urged Union Power Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde to allocate 300 MW of power from Central unallocated share of the eastern region to Orissa.

According to a statement issued by Chief Minister's Office (CMO) here, the Union Power Minister was also requested to restore the balance 500 MW of power surrendered by the State from its allocated share from NTPC Kaniha Stage II for ensuring uninterrupted power supply in the State.

During the meeting held at New Delhi, Mr. Patnaik expressed serious concerns about abysmal performance of Central Power Sector Utilities including NTPC, NHPC and Power Grid Corporation of India in implementing Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidutikaran Yojna (RGGVY).

Severe shortage

Chief Minister informed that Orissa was the first State in the country to undertake critical reforms in the power sector and yet it was experiencing severe shortage in power supply and delays in execution of works by CPSUs. “This is adversely affecting the rural electrification programmes and industrial process in the State,” he said.

Power ministry should take measures to complete the works in remaining 67 per cent villages and provide complete documentation in respect of 33 per cent villages in the State to achieve objectives of RGGVY, he demanded.
