Minor fire in Secretariat

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: A fire broke out in the Secretariat on Thursday due to electrical short circuit, but this time it was a minor one and in a room on the sixth floor of the “B” block adjacent to the Chief Minister's office.

The short-circuit occurred in an old air-conditioner due to voltage fluctuation.

V. R. Pratap Reddy, section officer who sits close the machine, alerted the fire service control room before the flame could engulf any file. The fire damaged the machine and left a soot of smoke on other articles.

Fire service tender, which arrived in time, put out the fire. In April last, a big fire occurred in “D” block.

A committee appointed by the government following the “D” block fire accident recommended replacement of the old wiring in the premises to prevent such happenings. This recommendation has not been implemented.
