Mediation centres for consumer matters too

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI:The Delhi Government is planning to open nine District Consumer Forums to settle consumer disputes through negotiations, Principal Secretary (Law) M. L. Mehta said here on Thursday.

Mr. Mehta, who is also chairman of the Executive Council of the Delhi Disputes Resolution Society, outlined the manner in which the mediation centres were being opened to ensure timely and responsive justice to public and to provide people with “access to justice”.

“Through these mediation centres, equal justice and free legal aid will be provided to citizenry in Delhi,” he said.

Some specific types of disputes could be settled through the mediation centres to be established by the Society in all nine districts of Delhi, he said.
