Charges of irregularities in managing company

CHENNAI. The Central Crime Branch of the Chennai Police on Friday took into custody Managing Director of Kumudam Publications (P) Ltd. P. Varadarajan on charges of irregularities in managing the company. However, he was released later in the evening.

The detention followed a complaint lodged by A. Jawahar Palaniappan, Director, Kumudam Publications.

The issue relates to a dispute between Mr. Varadarajan and Mr. Palaniappan over the management of the company that owns Kumudam, a popular Tamil weekly founded in 1947. Mr. Varadarajan is the son of P.V. Parthasarathy associated with the magazine from its early days as manager and later as publisher. Mr. Palaniappan is the son of S.A.P. Annamalai, founder-editor of the magazine.
