Letters to the Editor
The government's reluctance to constitute a Joint Parliamentary Committee (April 24) to investigate the dismal dealings of the Indian Premier League is mystifying. This could be the best answer to the filibustering tendency of the Opposition which tries to stall the House proceedings on every conceivable occasion. A JPC could delve into the malfeasance with greater effect and bring out the truth. It may also give the quietus to the prolonged acrimony between the Treasury benches and the Opposition. That the cricket world finds itself in a mess is more than obvious. Atonement may perhaps come from a thorough probe and preventive measures. K.S. Mani, Chennai We have had various JPCs in the past which probed high-profile and sensational scandals. The latest was the one set up during the 14th Lok Sabha to probe the cash-on-camera scam. Let us wait for the probe by various enforcement agencies to be completed. Everyone wants to know what action is going to be taken against all concerned in the IPL and what preventive mechanism the government will contemplate to avoid the recurrence of gambling in the name of promoting cricket. E. Krishnan, Palakkad
