And the youngsters had just started breathing exercises at the special yoga summer coaching camp organised by the Padmam Yoga Academy and Research (PYAR) at Srirangam here. Next, they loosen up with a few exercises, followed by ‘suryanamaskar.' Then they try doing ‘asanas' under the guidance of PYAR's director J. Chandrasekaran, who explained the benefits of every ‘asana,' to the participants. “The camp aims at improving the concentration of the youngsters. They are also given tips on maintaining good health and food habits,” Mr. Chandrasekaran said. K. Sathyanarayanan, S. Rukmani and Girija are the other trainers at the camp, which is also held at Lakshmi Commercial College campus at Teppakulam in the mornings. In the evenings, a session is organised for the elders at East Boulevard Road. “Through various ‘asanas' and breathing exercises the participants are taught ways to control high blood pressure and anxiety. They are also trained in relaxation techniques and meditation,” Mr. Chandrasekaran said. The camp organised for the fourth year by PYAR, according to Mr. Chandrasekaran, has attracted many youngsters. "There is lot of interest among the youth to learn yoga, which is indeed a good sign. Regular practice of yoga will certainly help them lead a healthy life,” he added.
