Staff Reporter

Bangalore: The State Government will spend nearly Rs. 10,500 crore in 2010-2011 on education as announced in the budget, said V.S. Acharya, Home Minister.

He was speaking at the concluding day of a three-day cultural festival, “Anwesha-The Quest 2010”, organised by the Islamiah Institute of Technology (IIT).

“Karnataka is an important State because it is considered as a State with a wealth of knowledge. We have quality institutions and by using them, we have to aim at being number one in the country. Public-private partnerships have definitely helped in increasing the quality of education in the State,” he said.

Naseer Ahmed, MLC and general secretary of Islamiah Institute of Technology, said: “India has a treasure of intellectual and academic ability which should be used to catapult us to achieve greatness.”

Also present at the function were Basheer Ahmed Khan, president of the Islamic Mission of India, Fathima Jabeen, Principal of IIT.
