BJP Member of Lok Sabha Hansraj Gangaram Ahir (left) presents a memento to Congress' Lok Sabha MP from Tirunelveli S.S. Ramasubbu in Chennai on Saturday. Former CECs T.S. Krishnamurthy and N. Gopalaswami are in the picture. CHENNAI: As a first-time member of the Lok Sabha, S.S. Ramasubbu, the Congress representative from Tirunelveli, learnt that it was necessary to have a good understanding of the country and work at the grassroots to gain knowledge about the people he represented. Mr. Ramasubbu said he learnt a lot from senior politicians such as BJP MP Hansraj Gangaram Ahir, who represents Chandrapur district in Maharashtra. Mr. Ahir has raised issues that are a concern in his State, in the current Lok Sabha. On Saturday, the two MPs were honoured for their performance in the Lok Sabha. Among the sitting MPs, Mr. Ahir had raised the maximum number of questions in the current Lok Sabha. From Tamil Nadu, Mr. Ramasubbu had been ranked first, according to an analysis based on number of questions, said K. Srinivasan, founder of Prime Point Foundation. Launching the 50th edition of the foundation's e-magazine PReSense, former Chief Election Commissioner T.S. Krishnamurthy said the Chennai branch of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, had developed a programme for students to prepare them for the world of business with Mr. Srinivasan's support. Former Chief Election Commissioner N. Gopalaswami, who launched a CD containing the 50 editions of the e-zine, said the foundation had shown the way to harness technology. Former President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, who addressed the gathering through phone, recalled that an elderly woman voted despite her advanced age.
